Newspaper of the Diocese of Trenton, serving the Catholic community in Burlington, Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
The latest issue of The Monitor brings readers a look back at the most solemn time of the Church year as it unfolded in parishes across the Diocese of Trenton. Our reporting includes the Masses and services presided over by Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., and many other highlights, including the Living Last Supper portrayal in Nativity Parish, Fair Haven; the powerful “Way of the Cross” organized by Catholic Charities’ El Centro and several parishes in the City of Trenton; and Easter Sunrise Mass that drew some 1,500 faithful to the shoreline in Beach Haven.
The Monitor photographers and reporters were on location at the annual Chrism Mass, April 20, a beautiful representation of the unity of the Diocese and the worldwide Church, and the Blue Mass, April 18, and share these stories in detailed reporting and beautiful images.
Also featured in the April 20 issue is a recap of the Diocese’s Respect Life Poster, Essay and Video contest, with a list of winners and runners-up, and several of the winning entries. Catholic school students who earned Caring Awards and Scholarships bestowed by their counties’ Guidance Director Associations are also profiled.
Other articles of interest: Efforts by Catholic leaders in New Jersey to restore needed transportation funding; the 100th anniversary of the apparitions at Fatima; the Holy Father’s upcoming trip to Egypt despite recent violence, and a round-up on ways that some parishes in the Diocese are observing Earth Day, which arrives April 22.
