Records that document an individual’s sacramental history – including Baptism – are retained in the parish where the sacraments were conferred. In cases where a parish was closed or merged with another parish, the sacramental records are kept on file with the parish that absorbed the community that was closed or merged.
A request for a sacramental record can be made by calling the parish where the records are believed to be on file, or by visiting its website where instructions are sometimes posted. For a directory of parishes in the Diocese of Trenton, CLICK HERE.
If the parish where the sacrament was conferred was closed and you are unsure which parish may be keeping the records, please reach out via email to the Office of Communications and Media at [email protected].
To request baptismal records for children who were baptized in St. Michael’s Orphanage or Our Lady of Light Chapel (associated with the Orphanage) should call Ms.Tanya Taylor-Norwood, Diocesan Archivist, at 609-403-7200.
Occasionally, family members conduct a search to learn the burial places of their pre-deceased relatives. All inquiries in this regard should be directed to the cemetery itself. The Diocese does not maintain burial records.
