The Mother-Daughter Relationship
When it comes to Natural Family Planning Awareness, and particularly the first introduction of young women to fertility appreciation concepts, nothing is more important than the mother-daughter relationship. To prepare for adulthood, all girls need a mother figure to pass along the wisdom and universal truths of womanhood that only come from lived experience.
Beginning in puberty and through each new stage of their daughters’ development, Catholic mothers can explain best the Catholic perspective on the innate dignity of every human person, the wonders of the female reproductive system, the miraculous gift of co-creation and what it means to be a faith-filled Catholic woman in today’s world.
By emphasizing the mother-daughter connection in our NFP Awareness efforts, our goal is twofold:To equip mothers with a holistic approach to sex education for their daughters that incorporates age appropriate NFP concepts and a Catholic perspective.
To provide a blueprint for our parishes to offer annual mother-daughter gatherings on age-appropriate NFP/Family Life topics.

- Mother-Daughter Area from the Couple to Couple League: Mothers are in a special position to engage their daughters about the gift of their fertility. The CCL Mother / Daughter Area lets you choose the resources you feel would be the best to communicate with your daughter about this important subject (for ages 9 - 18).
- LoveEd: Helps families, parishes and schools empower parents to teach both the theology and science of human sexuality within the context of God’s plan for love and life.
- Side by Side: A Catholic Mother-Daughter Journal to share thoughts and faith while strengthening the connection with each other

- The Joyful Mysteries of Life: Written by Catholic parents for their own children, this book introduces the "facts of life" to pre-teens in a reverent and respectful manner by presenting the biological facts in the context of meditations on the joyful mysteries of the Rosary.
- Family Honor: A non-profit organization that presents parent-teen and parent-only programs on chastity, family communication, and Theology of the Body. Their mission is to provide a Catholic framework for teaching on sexuality, love and family.
- The Culture Project: An initiative of young people set out to restore culture through the experience of virtue by proclaiming the dignity of the human person and the richness of living sexual integrity.
- Generation Life: a dynamic movement of young people committed to building a culture of life by educating other young people on the pro-life and chastity messages.
- Our Power to Love: This book is a new approach to sexuality education for adolescents and parents, incorporating the physiology of sexual maturing with Pope John Paul II’s theology of the body.
Mother-Daughter Events:
- Mother-Daughter Tea – Wonderfully Made: This parish-based event was began in 2022 and is now available as a turn-key program for parishes throughout the diocese. This is an in-person event for mothers and daughters from 5th through 8th grade on the passage from childhood to womanhood with three distinct segments: 1) Human Dignity/Chastity; 2) Introduction to Fertility Awareness/Puberty; 3) Panel Discussion for Moms with Q and A).
