Seven parishes and agencies which serve the people of the Diocese of Trenton in diverse ways were awarded a total of $10,000 in grants from the 2021 Bishop George W. Ahr Endowment Fund. The fund, named for the seventh bishop of the Diocese, presents annual grants for projects which provide services for the poor and vulnerable population in Burlington, Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean counties.

I remember going shopping as a boy with my mother and grandmother – I guess, maybe 60 years ago – when I asked my Mom to buy me a toy. We had just finished having lunch at the W.T. Grant Department store restaurant counter – remember those? – and I pleaded with her, “please get me this.”  My grandmother interrupted, “June, you are spoiling that boy,” and my Mom accepted her observation telling me to put the toy back. As Mom continued her shopping, distracted from us, Grandmom took my hand and whispered, “Go get it, I’ll buy it for you.” So much for being “spoiled.”  

The Diocese of Trenton is joining its counterparts around the world in preparing to celebrate the first World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly, proclaimed by Pope Francis to occur on the fourth Sunday of July each year, close to the Memorial of Sts. Joachim and Anne, grandparents of Jesus.  Set to take place this year on Sunday, July 25, the special day will have as its theme “I Am With You Always.”

It was a beautiful summer evening Thursday July 22 as the priests of the Diocese of Trenton gathered together in St. Robert’s Co-Cathedral Parish for dinner!  Over 100 priests from the four counties joined together in wonderful priestly fraternity as the mid-point of summer (FYI, August 7!) quickly approaches.

I woke up one day only to discover I was a senior citizen! Where did the time go? It seemed like only yesterday that I was "the young guy" among my "older" brother priests. I must not have been paying much attention as the days turned into months, then into years. Now, I look into the mirror as I prepare to shave in the morning and ask, "Who are YOU? Where did YOU come from?"
