February 22, 2023The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) is the domestic anti-poverty, social justice program of the U.S. Catholic Bishops. Its mission is to address the root causes of poverty in America through promotion and support of community-controlled, self-help organizations and through transformative education.
Acting CCHD Diocesan Director (CCHD-DD) is looking for a Catholic (age 18 & up) who is committed to social justice and seeking to work in social justice through a summer internship. The intern will work 40 hours per week for the summer of 2023 and will receive $18/hour. The office is located at the Diocese of Trenton Chancery & Pastoral Center, Trenton/Lawrenceville.
Required training for the CCHD internship will take place in Washington D.C. from May 31, 2023 to June 2, 2023. Intern must be able to attend the CCHD training for which costs for the training, including travel, are covered.
In collaboration with and reporting to the CCHD-DD, the intern will work to:- increase awareness of the work of CCHD throughout the diocese,
- promote the annual parish collection,
- develop/expand social media and a CCHD devoted webpage,
- explore program ideas to promote a hands-up approach to addressing poverty,
- identify potential candidates within the local community for national CCHD grant eligibility, and
- assist in expanding the number of members on the CCHD committee
Other opportunities in the internship may include:- learning about grant-funded organizations,
- promoting/managing a CCHD art contest in area schools, and
- evaluating grant applications and making funding decisions as part of the CCHD committee.
Successful candidates should have:- strong writing, speaking, and social media skills,
- excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
- a good understanding of Catholic social teaching and the root causes of poverty,
- experience working with low-income and/or marginalized populations, and
- a driver’s license with clean record.
Please further note the intern must complete Virtus training (protection of vulnerable persons) and submit to a background check prior to attending the CCHD training in Washington, DC.
