Bringing good news for Catholic schools across New Jersey, the state budget signed by Gov. Phil Murphy July 1 will restore full funding for nonpublic school transportation, technology and nursing and retain funding for security.
“With the combined efforts of all of our school communities contacting both their legislators and Gov. [Phil] Murphy, we made our voices heard and have had funding restored,” said Frances Koukotas, diocesan director of the New Jersey Network of Catholic Families.
The $37.4 billion state budget was signed July 1. Funding for the 2018-2019 school year will include, per pupil, $1,000 for transportation, $36 for technology, $97 for nursing and $75 for security.
Today (July 13) is the first day of
Mission: Jersey, an overnight community service retreat for high school teens from around the Diocese.
Sponsored by the Diocese’s
Department of Youth and Young Adults, this session of Mission: Jersey is bringing together students and their adult chaperones from four parishes to serve in Trenton, where they worked today on the beautification of a community children’s garden.
This is the first of two Mission: Jersey events this summer, and will run for four days, from July 12-15. The second is a six-day retreat, running from July 29 through Aug. 3.
