Summary of Function:
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Principal/Head of School will be responsible for the development of each student in the areas of academics, spirituality, athletics, and extra-curricular activities. Our educational approach to students is holistic; that is, each student is viewed as an individual with talents and needs. Mater Dei Prep works to engage students where they are and foster life-long learning through classes, sports, spiritual development, Christian service, and extra-curricular activities. The Principal/Head of School will serve as an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees and serve as a liaison between the Board of Trustees and the faculty & staff.
The Principal/Head of School will also be responsible for initiation, support, and oversight of institutional advancement and development efforts and building relationships within the community, as well as financial oversight of the school.
With a lead by example mindset, an important responsibility for this leader is ensuring ongoing and transparent communication between various groups: faculty & staff, students & parents, donors & alumni, and the Board of Trustees.
The Principal/Head of School will provide oversight and development of key functional leaders including the VP of Finance, VP of Institutional Advancement, Director of Student Services, Athletic Director, Director of Security & Dean of Students, faculty and school staff. Additionally, conducting regular observations of the faculty & staff reporting to this role and creating and implementing professional development standards and opportunities are also important responsibilities.
The candidate selected will engage in strategic planning activities aimed at furthering the mission of the school, as well as ensuring the school maintains a competitive edge academically and maintains high academic standards through annual curriculum review and development in collaboration with the Student Services team. Ensuring Mater Dei Prep maintains all certifications applicable and required by federal state, and local law and leading teams through recertifications is also a key responsibility of this role.
The Principal/Head of School will collaborate with the School Chaplain to coordinate and implement Catholic identity initiatives and oversee the Office of Student Services, Athletic Department, and all extracurricular activities.
The candidate selected must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church with the ability to set an example to the Mater Dei community of what it means to live their faith and Christian Service, as well as, have a deep commitment to the importance and mission of Mater Dei Prep.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree or higher in Education or related field with NJ Teacher and Administrator Certifications.
5 years in a school administrative role strongly preferred with experience in a private school setting a plus.
Proven track record of recruiting, training, leading, motivating, and retaining a highly-qualified and dedicated team in a competitive market that believes in and exemplifies the mission and values of Mater Dei Prep.
Goal-oriented with a proven track record of achievement in leading and meeting established objectives.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a proven track record of communication excellence.
Strong customer focus skills and experience building strong and effective relationships with students & parents, faculty & staff, community partners & donors, alumni, and the Board of Trustees.
Ability to organize programs, personnel, and activities required for productive in-person and virtual learning.
Ability to analyze data to make sound, strategic decisions.
Ability to create, manage and meet financial budgets.
Experience managing the human resources function of the job confidentially and tactfully.
Ability to effectively handle/negotiate difficult situations.
Experience with establishing and leading professional learning communities that impact student learning and teacher instruction.
Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church.
