Bishop David M. O'Connell, C.M., welcomed Bishop John Chrysostom Kwon Hyeok-Ju of Andong, South Korea, on July 21 to the Diocesan Chancery, Lawrenceville.
Bishop Kwon Hyeok-Ju is visiting two Korean Catholic parishes during his time in the United States: St. Michael/Church of the Korean Martyrs here in Trenton, and another in Pittsburgh, Pa. Bishop O'Connell delegated Bishop Kwon Hyeok-Ju to administer Confirmation in St. Michael/Church of the Korean Martyrs on July 23.
During their visit, the bishops spoke about their respective dioceses and parishes, as well as current escalating tensions between North Korea and surrounding countries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Bishop O'Connell thanked Bishop Kwon Hyeok-Ju for allowing Father In-Ho Bae (pictured above at Bishop O'Connell's left), to serve the Diocese of Trenton's Korean Catholics.

Bishop O’Connell joined hundreds of parishioners July 23 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of St. Mary Parish, Barnegat. The Bishop was the principal celebrant of a Mass of Thanksgiving in St. Mary of the Pines Church, which was concelebrated by Msgr. Kenard Tuzeneu, pastor, and priests who serve in St. Mary Parish, as well as in neighboring parishes.
“The 75th birthday of a parish, this parish, is a celebration of family and community – families and communities – who have been generations of faith, living out the promises of their Baptism together, seeking and finding Christ together in his Church and in our neighborhoods,” Bishop O’Connell said in his homily. The anniversary, he continued, is about “75 years of Sacraments: bringing to life and confirming life; feeding with the bread of life; mending and reconciling lives; marrying into new lives; handing lives over to God, 75 years of hearing God’s Word; 75 years of generosity of sharing, of charity, of living the Christian life.”
