Bishop O’Connell attends U.S. Bishops’ meeting in Baltimore · Clergy Announcement

THE U.S. BISHOPS’ FALL PLENARY ASSEMBLY is underway in Baltimore, running through Nov. 14, with public sessions held Nov. 12-13. 

The bishops typically meet twice a year for a general assembly to conduct official business. Decisions, such as electing committee chairmen and conference officers, issuing pastoral statements, and revising liturgical books, require either a simple majority or a two-thirds vote among member bishops for approval. Active bishops — both ordinary and auxiliary, Latin and Eastern Rite — are eligible to vote. Emeritus bishops may attend assemblies and participate in discussions and other activities, but they are not eligible to vote.

ON NOV. 12, 2024, BISHOP O’CONNELL  ISSUED THE FOLLOWING ANNOUNCEMENT: Rev. Zachary Swantek, Catholic chaplain and director of the Aquinas Institute at Princeton University, has been incardinated into the presbyterate of the Diocese of Trenton after previous service in the presbyterate of the Archdiocese of Newark.
