Mission of the English Language Arts Curriculum Guidelines
The mission of the English Language Arts Curriculum is to educate Pre-Kindergarten through twelfth grade students in English Language Arts to prepare the students for success in their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills across all disciplines.
Vision of the English Language Arts Curriculum
The English Language Arts Curriculum vision is to prepare all students in all disciplines in the Diocese of Trenton to become lifelong learners, to read widely and deeply, to become culturally literate, to use written and verbal communication to express opinions, to demonstrate critical analysis, and to convey meaningful experiences while infusing the tenets of the Catholic faith.
This curriculum is designed to build upon the foundation of Elementary Language Arts in order to promote 21st century academic skills that encourage students to think critically and make independent moral decisions which reflect their personal relationship with God. The curriculum document incorporates the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools, the New Jersey Student Learning Standards, suggested assessments, sample instructional strategies, teacher resources and teacher expertise.
