The Department of Catechesis provides basic training and formation through the Certificate in Catechesis. Catechists will be presented with the certificate after successful completion of the methodology and theology components. Upon completion catechists are required to be engaged in ongoing annual formation.
The Art of Catechesis will provide you with the basic understanding of the role of the catechist, the sources and methods used in catechesis, and the tools and skills that can help you effectively engage your learners. After completing this course, you will be able to prepare for your sessions more effectively, with the confidence to lead, guide, teach and inspire.
The Art of Catechesis is offered in-person and virtually. Class format includes live instruction and group discussions.
Catechists are required to have a deep familiarity and understanding of the teachings of the Catholic Church. The theology component explores the fundamental beliefs of the Catholic Church professed in the Creed and presented in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Topics of study include the Creed, Creation, Jesus Christ, Salvation, the Church, Sacraments, Morality and The Last Four Things.
