Catholic School Teachers of religion who teach in the Diocese of Trenton participate in the ministry of the Church and are referred to as catechists.
“The catechist is a Christian who receives a particular calling from God that, when accepted in faith, empowers him/her for the service of the transmission of the faith and for the task of initiating others into the Christian life.” (Directory for Catechesis 112)
Certificate in Catechesis
Teachers of religion are required to complete basic catechist training by completing the requirements to obtain the Certificate in Catechesis. The training will explore the fundamental beliefs of the Catholic Church professed in the Creed and presented in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Teachers will complete one of the two options below:
