Catechist formation provides the basic theological understanding, spiritual formation, and catechetical methodology necessary for those who pass on the faith. The goal of catechist formation is to make catechist aware that as baptized persons they are true missionary disciples, meaning active participants in evangelization, and on this basis are enabled by the Church to communicate the Gospel and to accompany and educate believers in faith. Ongoing Formation
As a catechist, one leads others to the person by whom one has already been found. For catechists today, we also are called to "stay" with Christ in prayer, in the sacraments, through our reading of the Scriptures and through studying the teaching of hte Church. In these ways, we also can be gradually formed by Him, day by day (White, Joseph, Companion to the Directory for Catechesis78)
The Diocese of Trenton offers many opportunities for ongoing formation. Through our partnerships with Notre Dame and Franciscan University, countless course options are available for catechists to choose from.
Catechist Formation events are also offered throughout the year
Scholarship opportunities are also available to puruse an advanced studies in Theology.
