San Alfonso Retreat House, Long Branch, is seeking a sales associate who will handle all activities related to the gift shop of the retreat house. This includes cashiering, inventory control and ordering, re-stocking and displaying merchandise, and assisting retreat house guests as needed. Hours are Friday afternoon 3:00 -7:30pm, Saturday 9am-5pm, and some weekdays (varying based on retreat schedule). Commitment of time will be 4 to 5 days per week, averaging 25 hrs./week. Responsibilities and Experience: 1. Maintain gift shop operations during scheduled hours. Fixed hours weekly: Friday, 3:00 – 7:30 and Saturday, 9:00 – 5:00 Other hours weekly: Schedule will vary depending on the program schedule at the retreat house. Generally 25 hours/week which may increase or decrease seasonally. 2. Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent service. 3. Oversee the buying, inventory, working with gift shop vendors to maintain quality supplies for our retreat clientele in collaboration with the Business Operations Manager. 4. Review book inventory to ensure that relevant reading material associated with programs being offered at the retreat house are ordered and stocked. Consult with Business Operations Manager and other retreat team staff for suggested input. 5. Ensure that seasonal items are ordered with sufficient lead time to be in stock and displayed in advance. 6. Become proficient with the gift shop point of sale (POS) system and its reporting capabilities to be able to provide financial reports and inventory status as needed. Interface with technical support for POS when necessary. 7. Responsible for tagging all purchased merchandise and entering it into the POS system prior to putting it out on the floor for sale. 8. Maintain outstanding gift shop conditions and visual merchandising standards. 9. Proven successful experience in retail sales. 10. Knowledge of local business regulations. 11. Preparing and managing gift shop income for bank deposit. Maintain appropriate levels of cash in register for ease of customer transactions. 12. Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. 13. Customer management skills. 14. Work collaboratively and effectively with other members of the retreat house staff. 15. Display a helpful, cheerful, diplomatic, and caring servant attitude to all who visit the gift shop. Communicate with a sense of warmth, openness and approachability. 16. Work under pressure, remaining flexible and adaptable, proactive, resourceful and efficient displaying a high level of professionalism. 17. Maintain a conducive atmosphere in the gift shop with environmental music and displays and a welcoming attitude for all visitors and guests whether or not they purchase any items. 18. Be aware of other events being sponsored by the Church whether nationally or globally (e.g., 2025 Jubilee Year of Hope). 19. Reliable, punctual and dependable.
