Music Director

Overview:
 St. Leo the Great Parish in Lincroft is seeking a full-time Music Director to lead and enrich our parish music ministry. The ideal candidate is a practicing Catholic with a passion for sacred music and a commitment to fostering active congregational participation in the liturgy. This leadership role offers the opportunity to shape the musical direction of the parish and collaborate closely with the clergy and staff in creating prayerful, vibrant worship experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, coordinate, and lead music for all parish liturgies, including:
  • Weekend and holy day Masses
  • School liturgies
  • Weddings, funerals, and other sacramental celebrations
  • Special liturgical seasons and events (e.g., Advent, Lent, Holy Week, parish missions)
• Direct and rehearse parish choirs (adult, youth, contemporary, as applicable)
• Recruit, train, and schedule cantors and instrumentalists
• Play piano and/or organ for liturgies
• Collaborate with the pastor and liturgy team to ensure music selections support the liturgical themes and Church teachings
• Maintain parish musical instruments and equipment
• Support school music initiatives in collaboration with faculty, if applicable
• Participate in parish staff meetings and liturgical planning

Qualifications:

• Practicing Catholic with strong knowledge of Catholic liturgy and sacred music traditions
• Proficient in piano and/or organ performance; conducting experience preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in music, liturgical music, or related field (Master’s preferred)
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, parish staff, volunteers, and parishioners
• Familiarity with a variety of music styles (traditional, contemporary, chant, etc.)
• Experience using music notation and planning software is a plus
