The Diocesan Department of Youth, Marriage and Family Life will sponsor a number of Young Adult Masses and fellowship opportunities this fall with the goal of uniting young adult Catholics around the Diocese of Trenton and celebrating the universality of the Church.
The first Young Adult Mass will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 7 in St. Gregory the Great Church, Hamilton Square. The Mass will be celebrated by Msgr. Thomas Gervasio, diocesan vicar general and moderator of the curia, and pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Anthony Parish, Hamilton. Music for the Mass will be led by those from St. Raphael-Holy Angels Parish, Hamilton.
After the Mass, all are invited to enjoy fellowship at UNO’s restaurant at 225 Sloan Ave., Hamilton.
Additional Young Adult Masses will be held on Oct. 4 in Visitation Parish, Brick, and Dec. 6 in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton. Organizers are working to schedule a Mass in November, as well.
The series is part of a broader effort to bring together young Catholics in Burlington, Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean counties, said Jerry Wutkowski, assistant coordinator of the Diocese’s young adult ministry.
“We need to start thinking bigger,” he said, noting that young adult ministers and members have told him that they often feel spread out as individual programs.
“There is no longer the vision of one parish, one ministry – we are one Church, so we have to start thinking about how we can work together to help young leaders,” he said.
The initiative was inspired in part by the Faith In Our Future initiative that is taking place throughout the Diocese of Trenton, and the trend it encourages for collaborations and partnerships among parishes and ministries.
“These Masses are an opportunity for the younger community to come together and feel like they can celebrate their faith with people of the same age,” Wutkowski said.
