The Diocese of Trenton will join dioceses nationwide in encouraging support for the annual
Catholic Communication Campaign during Masses May 27 and 28.
The
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’-sponsored collection offers Catholics an opportunity to support evangelization through technology and social media by supporting the production and dissemination of high-quality Catholic content via the Internet, television, radio and print publications. The collection is designed to be shared, with half of the proceeds remaining in the local diocese and half forwarded to the Catholic Communication Campaign office of the USCCB.
In
his message for the 51st World Communications Day, Pope Francis reflected on this year’s theme, Communicating Hope and Trust in our Time, and reiterated how the advances in technology “makes it possible for countless people to share news instantly and spread it widely. “
In the Trenton Diocese, funds are used to support the work of the diocesan Department of Multimedia Production. According to Marianne Hartman, department director, the local projects funded in part by the collection include the Spanish-language television program
“Cristo Para Todos”; the “
Catching the Word” podcast with weekly reflections on Sunday Scripture by Father Garry Koch, pastor of St. Benedict Parish, Holmdel, featuring occasional audio messages and homilies from Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M.; the production of
special video messages from Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., and news stories, and videotaping and livestreaming major diocesan events
such as the ordination of priests and deacons.
