Bishop reflects on power of Easter faith; Faithful invited to Annual Blue Mass

April 26, 2019Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M. has released a message on the power of Easter faith over sin:
No matter how we understand or explain the origin and existence of evil/sin, God did not give up or abandon his creation or human beings within it. God did not stop loving his creation or human beings within it. God showed mercy. We read in the Gospel, “God so loved the world that he sent his only Son so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but may have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned... (John 3: 16-18).”
Christians throughout the world have just celebrated the Passion, Death and Resurrection of the Son of God, the ultimate proof of God’s love and mercy for us through the Risen Lord Jesus Christ, despite our sins. That is our Easter faith. And upon the rock of this Easter faith, the Lord Jesus built his Church to constantly remind us of his love and mercy and grace, because of our sins.

The Diocese of Trenton invites men and women of all faiths to attend the 20 th annual Blue Mass set for 10:30 a.m., April 30 in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral in Trenton. Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., will serve as principal celebrant and homilist for the Mass, and will ask God’s protection for law enforcement personnel in the four counties of the Diocese and around the state. As many as a dozen diocesan priests are expected to concelebrate.
The Mass will include participation by law enforcement representatives who will read Scripture, offer petitions and lead the congregation in song. Bagpipers, fife and drum legions, color guard members and others will also be featured.
In addition to those in law enforcement, the Catholic faithful and all people of good will are encouraged to support their police by remembering them in prayer, standing with them in worship and thanking them for all that they do to keep our communities safe.
A luncheon will follow in the lower hall of the Cathedral. Luncheon tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased at the event. Immediate family members of law enforcement attendees will be treated to a complimentary lunch. The Cathedral is located at 151 N. Warren Street, Trenton.
