Who can teach Natural Family Planning? Anyone who has learned and practiced Natural Family Planning (NFP) can become an instructor. In fact, the highest level of adult learning is to teach others.
Fortunately in today's world, anyone who wants to practice NFP can learn a method in a host of ways. They can attend a live class series, take an online class series, or complete a home-study course. However, being able to consult with a person or couple who is trained to instruct others in NFP is always helpful, so the live class option is usually the best.
Here in the Diocese of Trenton, as in all dioceses throughout the world, there is a great need for NFP instructors. We ask all Catholic persons who care deeply for the Sacrament of Marriage to give serious consideration to becoming an NFP instructor, and if married, we ask you to consider becoming a teaching couple.
What are the methods of Natural Family Planning? Mucus Only Methods
Mucus Only Methods
These methods teach the careful observation and charting of the absence or presence of cervical mucus throughout the day.
Sympto-Hormonal Methods
This method of NFP teaches women how to use an at-home fertility monitor to measure daily levels of reproductive hormones, as well as to observe and chart cervical mucus.
Sympto-Thermal Methods
These methods of NFP are also referred to as “cross check” methods because they teach the careful observation and charting of cervical mucus, basal body temperature (BBT), and the optional cervix sign.
