Operation Rice Bowl
Operation Rice Bowl is a Lenten program that calls U.S. Catholics to pray, fast, learn and give.
Operation Rice Bowl is a program implemented in parishes and homes to educate people in the United States about the work of Catholic Relief Services and to foster solidarity with our brothers and sisters in need around the world.
75% of Rice Bowl proceeds are received by Catholic Relief Services to fund development projects in 40 countries around the world, including agricultural enrichment, water and sanitation, maternal/child health, small enterprise development and job training. All of these projects help to promote human dignity and encourage self-reliance.
25% of Rice Bowl proceeds stay in the diocese to provide needed resources for local efforts to help the poor. These funds are for program costs related to hunger or poverty alleviation, such as soup kitchens, homeless shelters and food pantries.
