Strategic planning is the process of determining what an organization intends to be in the future and how it will get there. It is finding the best future for your school and the best path to reach that destination to ensure that your school is:

  • Fulfilling its mission
  • Strong in Catholic identity
  • Academically excellent
  • Financially viable

Strategic planning is essential to the ability of a school to survive and flourish. The process involves self-study and visioning to project a preferred future. With the input of a diverse group of stakeholders, a plan is developed to realize that future.

The planning process involves choices about the future of your school - choices about:

  • The mission or goals you will pursue
  • The programs, services or products you will offer to accomplish this mission
  • How you will attract and utilize the resources you need - people, money, expertise, facilities

The task is twofold:

  • Develop the best vision you can of what your school should look like in the future, usually 3 years from now: its mission, services, staffing, finances...
  • Determine who will move your organization toward that desired future.
