The Athletics Office in the Diocese serves the Sports Programs offered by many of our schools and parishes. We currently have over 1100 volunteer coaches and 8700 young people participating in these athletic programs across the Diocese. These programs are an important and integral part of the total school and parish community life. Through Athletics our youth have the opportunity to use the talents given to them and, at the same time, further develop and reinforce the Catholic values they are learning at home, school and church.

The Athletics Office in the Diocese reaches out to the network of volunteers serving as coaches, officials, and athletic directors to assist them in many areas such as:

  • Developing and implementing a Sports program
  • Establishing written guidelines for existing programs
  • Annual conferences and workshops
  • Coaches Certification

Advisory councils have been established in each of our four counties to address policies and procedures in the county. Additionally a Resource Library has been established with information available to all coaches, Athletic Directors and others in the Diocese.

Through all of these efforts our goal is to assist our young people in competing well, finishing the race and keeping the faith. (2 Timothy 4:7)

Important Events

Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y Clinic
In order to be eligible for the civil immunity protection provided by the Little League Law (2A:62A-6) volunteer coaches are required to attend a “safety orientation and training skill program”. The Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic is based upon the “Minimum Standards for Volunteer Coaches Safety Orientation and Training Skills Programs”(N.J.A.C. 5:52) and has been tested in court as having met the standards.

This training is now available through the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry at the Diocese of Trenton.
