The Department of Evangelization and Catechesis encourages parish catechists and Catholic School teachers to obtain the diocesan Certificate in Catechesis. For parish catechists, this involves the completion of a theology component and a methodology component. For Catholic School teachers, this involves the completion of a theology component.
Before beginning any coursework, catechists and Catholic elementary school teachers must mail, fax, or e-mail a completed Certificate in Catechesis Application to the Ministry of Catechesis and Evangelization office.
Option 1— “Core Course: Introduction to the Catholic Faith” through theUniversity of Notre Dame STEP program. This is a 7 week scheduled program that surveys the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Option 2— “MyCatholicFaithDelivered.com” customized program for the Diocese of Trenton @ www.trentoncatechist.com. This multi-session program is organized in five separate modules, encompassing the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and a separate module dedicated to Sacred Scripture. Once registered, the catechist may complete the sessions at any time convenient for the catechist.
